Figurative art is a style of art that bears traits or represents the real world or identifiable objects.  They can vary from realism to partial abstraction and take the form of paintings, drawings, sculptures and photography. Depictions often include human or animal figures, landscapes or scenes, particularly historical scenes.

The depiction of real-life figures or forms dates back to early civilisation, however the term ‘figurative’ became more prominent in the 20th century to differentiate it from abstraction of the modern art era.
