Neoclassicism was a late 18th century to mid-19th century classic art movement which simplified the excessive and extravagant art styles of Rococo and Baroque art movements. It was heavily influenced by the discovery of the remains of Ancient Greece & Rome, which further fuelled a return to ancient classic styles.

The characteristics of Neoclassic art are the use of simple lines, forms and colours which brought balance together with the use of symmetry, mathematics and science in the creation process.

At the time, Neoclassicism had an impact on numerous fields of art including visual arts, literature and architecture.  Elements of the movement and its style can still be seen today, especially in modern architecture.  In fact, many current buildings and dwellings are still designed with neoclassic architecture in mind.
