In The Words Of The Artist

“During total lockdown in Mauritius and the majority of the world, the streets were desert with no activity in the cities. The planet was at rest from all activities of man, personified in this piece as a child sleeping in the colours of our planet; blue, brown and white.”

This painting plays around expressionism and abstraction while also edging towards surrealism.  It was created by Mauritian artist Damien Pavaday during the lockdown period in Mauritius following the global covid-19 outbreak.

“La Terre Se Repose” is French for “Earth Is Resting”; The work of art takes us into how the pandemic brought the whole world to a complete stop.  As coined by several people, allowing earth to rest.

The composition of the painting consists of the outline of a sleeping infant’s face in a swirl of blue and brown-orange colours on a white background; almost similar to an embryo painting.

The artwork projects serenity and peacefulness.  It is inspiring, historically relevant and above all bears deep meaning; an ideal statement piece to add to your living room, study or office.
