Description

“She Is An Island” is a canvas that packs different elements from the island of Mauritius.  Created by talented Mauritian Artist, Damien Pavaday, it portrays the side of a woman’s face with sea shells and sailboats running along her hair.  The colours of the Mauritian flag also adorn the bottom of the woman’s hair, flowing through the breeze.

The peak of mountain Pieter Both with its “balancing rock” and a flamboyant tree with its bright red flowers are featured in the upper part of the canvas.  The bottom left depicts the earth and sugarcane plantations of the country while the bottom right features the sand and sea.  A well-known brand of slippers in Mauritius, ‘Savatte Dodo’ sits on the beach adding an even more Mauritian feel to the whole canvas.
